I love documentaries, and while this might not be the best of it’s kind, it is a warm story with a lot of good, passionate folk. And the BBQ looks amazing! Worth watching!

I directed this film, so, obviously, I’m going to give it all the stars. But I knew when I was making it that it wouldn’t be for everyone. I’m happy to see so many people are enjoying it. I found New Hope while driving the backroads of Central Florida. As a hardcore BBQ fan, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to stop for a rib sandwich. What I found there was more than just great food. In fact, the film really isn’t about the food at all. It’s about some of the hardest working, praying-est folks I’ve ever met. Their genuine devotion to God, their church, their community, and each other is inspiring. The story is loose, and just kind of meanders, and that’s ok, from my perspective. It’s just a little character study, of sorts. Watching the movie is much like spending time beside a BBQ smoker with friends. It’s about conversation — perspective on life, faith….and when it’s done, all you want to do is dig into the ribs you’ve been watching all day. Like Pastor Scotty says, “We cook and we pray. That adds more flavor to the food.”
